Update- Monday, March 2:\u00a0 Gracie will be taken off of ECMO today and will become another precious heart angel.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Update- Saturday, February 28:\u00a0 Gracie is too sick for the VAD, or Berlin Heart.\u00a0 Her family has also been told that she\u00a0may also be\u00a0too sick for another transplant.\u00a0 She is still on ECMO, which is her life support.\u00a0 I cannot imagine how her family feels at this moment.\u00a0 What is worse is knowing that these babies are so precious, so perfect…their only opponent is their heart.\u00a0 Why can’t someone figure this out!?\u00a0 I hate HLHS.<\/p>\n
Update- Friday, February 27: Gracie’s new heart was deemed, “a bad heart” which was unknown until they actually got it in her body.\u00a0 She was then\u00a0re-listed\u00a0for another heart transplant.\u00a0 While waiting, she\u00a0must remain on\u00a0ECMO, which is similar to a heart lung bypass machine.\u00a0\u00a0She can’t live on ECMO forever, or even more than several weeks.\u00a0 The family was told today that the doctors want to give her a Berlin heart<\/a> to save her life, possibly Tuesday or Wednesday.\u00a0 The Berlin Heart, or VAD procedure, is pretty interesting, and apparently is only a bridge until\u00a0she can receive another transplant.\u00a0 It is not FDA approved,\u00a0 and\u00a0the procedure has only been performed\u00a0twice at her hospital.\u00a0 One successful and one not.\u00a0 Add to surgery time,\u00a0recovery time, wait time for another heart between procedures and this poor family is looking at a very, very long journey this go round.\u00a0 Not to mention watching their precious baby girl endure it all. \u00a0Pray.<\/p>\n
