{"id":5682,"date":"2011-04-15T07:51:02","date_gmt":"2011-04-15T12:51:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.babypennington.com\/?p=5682"},"modified":"2011-04-16T08:24:45","modified_gmt":"2011-04-16T13:24:45","slug":"speaking-of-the-new-normal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.babypennington.com\/?p=5682","title":{"rendered":"Speaking of &#8220;new normal&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We have our morning and nightly medicine ritual down so far.\u00a0 MC certainly did not like taking her meds in the hospital, and still isn&#8217;t a huge fan of lasix, but every day gets better.\u00a0 She is taking Depakote for her seizures- 125 mg in the morning and 250 mg at night.\u00a0 (Which will increase every two weeks until we get to her therapeutic level.)\u00a0 Her Enalapril twice a day- a BP medicine she&#8217;s been on since birth, her Lasix twice a day-for fluid retention and her daily asprin, of course.\u00a0 Not too bad for two weeks post op.\u00a0 We haven&#8217;t even had to give her any of her pain meds or even Tylenol.\u00a0 Such a big girl.\u00a0 McCanless has adjusted.\u00a0 Or not.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t think there was even a skip in her schedule.\u00a0 She hasn&#8217;t missed a beat and doesn&#8217;t seem to be phased whatsoever.\u00a0 She is amazing.\u00a0 I am too lucky to have such adaptive girls.\u00a0 They astonish me with their maturity.\u00a0 We should all be so understanding.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mary Clare has a horrible skin rash on her chest.\u00a0 We called our NP and cardiologist last night and it seems to be a skin rash from all of the adhesives from bandages.\u00a0 We removed everything but her steri-strips from her &#8220;scarf,&#8221; which looks amazing so far.\u00a0 She always heals so quickly and so beautifully.\u00a0\u00a0 Her little bruised and scarred body is slowly recovering.\u00a0 We also have another addition to our usual arsenal of meds for Mary Clare.\u00a0 We have our Diastat, of course, to stop seizures in an emergency (which means after 2 minutes for her).\u00a0 We&#8217;ve also added her O2 tank to her &#8220;goes everywhere with us backpack.&#8221;\u00a0 Her Oxygen saturation levels are\u00a0 still not as high as a healthy heart&#8217;s.\u00a0 They hover around high eighties and low nineties.\u00a0 Much better than before her Fontan, however!\u00a0 (They may improve even more after Dr. Bradley closes her fenestration in the cath lab in about a year.)\u00a0 So when MC has a seizure, because of her special heart, her O2 levels plummet, which is why she turns so blue\/pale.\u00a0\u00a0 It is strictly from her labored\/unstable breathing during a seizure.\u00a0 For this reason, we&#8217;ll give her oxygen during a seizure.\u00a0 No biggie, just a precaution!\u00a0 Never hurts to have oxygen around for a heart kiddo, anyway!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Right now, as I sit at my computer desk, I have all of our doors open.\u00a0 I feel a great Spring breeze and hear a neighbor cutting grass.\u00a0 Mary Clare is dozing on my bed and McCanless is with Mimi.\u00a0 Mimi was her substitute teacher today, much to her excitement.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure they are enjoying an after school ice cream cone or treat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I&#8217;m sure I&#8217;ll soon get back into the habit of rolling my eyes at laundry, yard work, or all of my daily tasks and errands soon.\u00a0 But right now at this moment, everything is just as it should be.\u00a0 My washer has not stopped since we returned from Charleston, our yard was hit by a horrendous hail storm the day before we returned, and I have not been to the grocery store yet.\u00a0 Everything is perfect.\u00a0 We are all home and healthy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Summer is just around the corner and the girls are getting excited about picnics by the pool, frequent beach trips and of course, our promised trip to Disney World.\u00a0 Life could not get any better.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have our morning and nightly medicine ritual down so far.\u00a0 MC certainly did not like taking her meds in the hospital, and still isn&#8217;t a huge fan of lasix, but every day gets better.\u00a0 She is taking Depakote for her seizures- 125 mg in the morning and 250 mg at night.\u00a0 (Which will increase [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5682","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.babypennington.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5682","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.babypennington.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.babypennington.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.babypennington.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.babypennington.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=5682"}],"version-history":[{"count":5,"href":"https:\/\/www.babypennington.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5682\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":5687,"href":"https:\/\/www.babypennington.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5682\/revisions\/5687"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.babypennington.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=5682"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.babypennington.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=5682"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.babypennington.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=5682"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
