Thursday, September 1st, I’ll have a PET scan. Friday, I have off.<\/p>\n
Tuesday, September 6th, Dr. Sweatman will place my chemo port-outpatient.<\/p>\n
Monday, September 12th, I will have my first of six planned chemo treatments.<\/p>\n
Six treatments. Three weeks between each treatment.<\/p>\n
Eighteen weeks of treatment<\/p>\n
ending before the new year.<\/p>\n
Following treatments, I will have surgery.<\/p>\n
Dr. Sweatman was right, Dr. Butler is non-fuzzy. Wonderfully, non-fuzzy.<\/p>\n
I do non-fuss, non-fuzzy.<\/p>\n
Yesterday, I was ready.<\/p>\n
Today, I realized how naive I am.<\/p>\n
If you’ve never been in an oncologist hospital,<\/p>\n
it’s a sobering place.<\/p>\n
I thought<\/em> I was ready.<\/p>\n I thought <\/em>I knew what chemo was about.<\/p>\n I thought<\/em> I could take this on,<\/p>\n head on.<\/p>\n Today, I’m scared.<\/p>\n Today, I visited a place I know I’ll grow to love and hate.<\/p>\n Today, I hurt for everyone who has ever had cancer.<\/p>\n Today, I ache for everyone who will face it.<\/p>\n Today, Mel and I discussed who would care for my girls if I couldn’t,<\/p>\n or wasn’t around,<\/p>\n a conversation I never thought we’d have so soon.<\/p>\n Today, I’m not so sure I’m ready, but here it is.<\/p>\n \n P.S. After I originally wrote this post, I clicked on a new blog friend’s website. Ironically, she had her very last chemo treatment at SCOA today<\/em>, ending her journey as I was touring SCOA for the very first time today<\/em>.She has done it. She was right here where I am eighteen weeks ago. She has worked with Dr. Sweatman, Dr. Butler, and she did it.
